Fellowship in Obstetric Anaesthesia:
Testimonial: Dr Pren Mehrotra
Consultant Anaesthetist, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
Consultant Anaesthetist, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
Completing the obstetric anaesthesia fellowship has been an invaluable experience. The fellowship has given me the opportunity to develop clinical and non-clinical attributes which are very transferable to other anaesthetic specialities. I have completed the fellowship LTFT (80%), with weekly time set aside for research and SPA.
During the fellowship I arranged a clinical observership in Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, arranged around presenting at the ICOA international conference. I have 2 publications pending, and a 2nd prize for oral presentation at an OAA meeting. There has been plenty of opportunity for management activities such as organising higher teaching day, M+M and audit meetings, and service improvement projects.
The clinical exposure has been invaluable. The priority has been ensuring that the fellow manages the complex cases and attends the multi-disciplinary meetings. All things I will be mentioning when I apply for a Consultant Obstetric Anaesthesia post on return from maternity leave!
