DUTIES OF THE POST
Research
The post involves taking a lead role in the development and achievement of a research project related toresearch projects based at TSCSC relating to patient safety and/or multi-professional learning within a clinical skills and simulation training environment.
It is expected that the post holder will actively contribute to the design, development and piloting of the project including collection and analysis of data. The post holder will be involved in the presentation of research plans and findings/results to local, regional, national and international groups or meetings, and write abstracts and research papers for publication.
Teaching
The post holder will participate in the teaching of new and existing courses in the simulation and clinical skills environment. This will include specialty specific and multi-professional groups at both undergraduate and postgraduate/post qualified levels.
Personal teaching skills will be developed and improved, along with understanding and experience of practice based learning and competency assessment and evaluation tools. There will also be the opportunity to develop skills and experience working alongside experienced faculty.
Research/Journal meetings
The post holder will be responsible for arranging and administering regular departmental research and "journal club" meetings for clinical skills and simulation teaching and maintain an up to date database of research activities.
Clinical Commitments
This post will include a clinical commitment to the on call rota and weekend working at QMC (NUH). Clinical duties will be discussed with the Director of TSCSC and clinical Head of Service and post holder to, wherever possible, reflect specific training needs/interest of the post holder.
Professional Development
• Opportunity and support is available to undertake the taught Masters of Medical Sciences (Clinical Education) at the University of Nottingham to Certificate level.
• The Fellow will be supported to attend the TSCSC Faculty Development which is a fundamental component of our quality assurance programme.
• The Fellow will develop advanced abilities in clinical skills and simulation-based learning. Specific knowledge to underpin these competences will be gained by accessing information within TSCSC and from library and online resources, related to (amongst others):
Education Theory
Simulation-based learning and supporting technologies
Cognitive Psychology relevant to clinical performance
Crisis Resource Management and ‘human factors’ involved in error or adverse clinical outcomes
Assessment and evaluation methodology
Opportunity will be provided to ‘shadow’ the Centre Director or Centre Manager when attending meetings to discuss strategic or operational developments pertinent to TSCSC either within NUH, the East Midlands region, or nationally.
Supervision
The post holder will report to the Director of the Trent Simulation and Clinical Skills Centre and work alongside members of the TSCSC team. Clinical supervision to be determined depending on the clinical component of the post.
