DUTIES OF THE POST
1. Clinical
The post holder will be supervised in at least three clinical operating lists per week. In addition the post holder will be expected to provide solo (remote supervision) anaesthetic cover for additional lists. The majority of these lists will be in the ENT and maxillofacial theatres. The post holder will be expected to become proficient in many specialist areas of airway management including awake fibreoptic intubation.
2. Teaching
The post holder will participate in the teaching of other anaesthetists and health professionals in airway management techniques.
Personal teaching skills will be developed and improved, along with understanding and experience of practice based learning and competency assessment and evaluation tools. There will also be the opportunity to develop skills and experience working alongside experienced teachers.
3. Research/Journal meetings
The post holder will be responsible for arranging and administering regular departmental research and “journal club ‘meetings for clinical skills.
4. Professional Development
The fellow will be encouraged to participate in audit and research projects related to airway management and to submit abstracts to national and international meetings. The same study leave allowance will be given to the fellow as to other anaesthetic trainees in Nottingham.
5. Supervision
The post will be supervised by Dr M Barley for the clinical component and Prof J Hardman for research.
